Gartner Reports Why So Many ERP Implementations Fail

A few weeks ago, Gartner released a report stating that 70% of ERP implementations over the next three years will fail to meet their objectives. Further, 25% of these implementations will “fail catastrophically”. Based on their research, the primary reason is due to the ERP plan and deployment not being properly aligned with the company’s overall business strategy.

From my perspective, too many companies and their ERP partners/implementers simply dive straight into just the functional and technical requirements. They too often skip this business strategy alignment. It’s simply not in their DNA. Or, in many cases the decision was made in a silo and too few feel a strategy alignment is needed. Every single one of these ERP migrations is an expensive endeavor and a key element of driving business growth and productivity. It‘s important to get it done right the first time.

This is precisely why I started Red Dog Advisors. If you’re considering an ERP selection and deployment, let’s talk so you don’t end up in this 70%. Proper planning on the front end of your process will save you time and money on the back end.

There are 5 other key reasons that projects fail which I address with clients before their deployment. I’m more than happy to share these along with more details from the Gartner’s report. Reach out early in your process!
